Dude with bad teeth maybe?  Pirate crewman maybe?  Anyway – tablet was from monoprice.com – crazy cheap and worked 100% just plug and play with Windows 7 64 bit.  So that rocked a lot – will have to play some more.

Pretty much blowing my mind.  Game is soooo much fun and I have so little free time to play it!

I think another approach might be to reconsider the keyboard.  the device still looks to me like a lot of people will be holding it from the corners of the bezel when they are holding it (sadly I don’t own one, but would like to) – and if this assumption is correct, then maybe my idea has some legs.

The current standard onscreen keyboard:

I am proposing a rethinking of that keyboard to something like this:

This would facilitate thumb typing a la iPod even given that your hands are quite far apart and matches the split ergonomic keyboard designs.  You could even add the whole keyboard in each corner, if some people are “hunt-and-peck” typers and would prefer to have either thumb reach for specific letters.

So hey! Apple, if you like this idea and decide to ever incorporate this into some next gen OS, I’d be happy if you sent me an iPad unit and/or some really small percentage of OS upgrade proceeds.

Googled around after I mocked this up and found several people mulling this over:

• A pretty well thought-out version written out here
• Scot Robbin’s split space bar in Concept: iPad Split Keyboard. 
• Duplicate keyboard design over at lonelysandwich.  
• A curved keypad, neat looking.

I listen to his music on my ipod Touch which displays all the album cover art each time songs play (duh, like everyone else’s iPod) – but everytime I saw the Sam Roberts cover art, I thought it was one of those rapatronic/high speed photos of nuclear explosions.  it only became obvious that it was an illustration of people and animals when I looked closer.  So you go, huh?  What the hell is a rapatronic photo?  And why did I even know what they are?   Haha.  I’m a nerd and I read Carl Sagan’s Cosmos when I was a teen – and saw my first rapatronic images there.

If you blur the Sam Roberts cover with a Gaussian Blur of 8 or so pixels you get this:

Even closer right?  Even if this was just an accident – I find it very cool and interesting.  Especially the connection between nuclear explosions and the “end of the world”.
